The Olympiad Maths Club was opened in 2017. Teachers of the club compose problems for Olympiads and mathematical competitions in the Sverdlovsk region. As part of the lessons, there are mathematical games (penalties, shootout, abaca, math carousel, crosses and zeros, etc.). Pupils of the club include winners of the final stage of the Russian School Olympiad, the final stage of the Euler Olympiad, winners of the University-Academy Olympiad, the Urals Tournament of Young Mathematicians, the Ekaterinburg Open Cup and many other Olympiads.
The Olympiad is held for students in grades 8-11. The Olympiad is included in the List of School Olympiads in 2019/20 academic year, approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Winners and runners-up of the Izumrud Maths Olympiad can enter Ural Federal University without entrance examinations in fields of study that correspond to the mathematical profile of the Olympiad, if they achieve at least 75 points in mathematics.
The traditional university-academic maths Olympiad takes place in February at Ural Federal University. The Olympiad is held for students in Sverdlovsk region from grades 5 to 11. The Olympiad aims to develop the interest of schoolchildren in mathematics, create the necessary conditions to support gifted children, and disseminate and popularise scientific knowledge. Every year hundreds of students from numerous cities across the Urals take part in the Olympiad.
The traditional university-academic computer science olympiad takes place at Ural Federal University in spring. Any Russian scholar can take part in the Olympiad, regardless of class or age. In 2021, the Olympiad will be held in two stages: an online distance learning round is planned for February and the main round in March. At the end of the Olympiad, the best participants will be awarded diplomas and prizes.
The Urals Team Programming Olympiad for high school students is held annually in autumn at the Ural Federal University's Matmech department. For teams from the Sverdlovsk region, UrKOP is a qualifying round for participation in the All-Russian Team Programming Olympiad for school students (VKOSP). The Olympiad is held according to the scheme of the International Student Programming Championships (ACM ICPC). In 2020 the Olympiad will be held in the distance format.
